About the wood: This wood species is referred to as ambrosia maple or wormy maple.  This does not describe a specific maple wood species but rather what happened to the wood throughout the life of the tree, similarly to spalted maple.  So named for ambrosia fungi which occurs due to ambrosia beetles boring into the wood.  Once introduced, the fungi creates these beautiful stripes or streaks throughout the wood.
